What is Soaring?
-
1
A soaring pilot flies a glider, a plane with no engine. To get off the ground, their plane is towed behind a regular plane using a rope.
-
2
After attaining a safe height, the soaring pilot releases the rope. They can then make use of convection currents in the atmosphere to keep flying. With skill and luck, the flight can last hours!

3
The glider lands back on the runway like any other plane. The tow rope just needs to be hooked back on and it can fly again right away.
