All pilots and students must be members. Membership fees include GST and cover insurance, maintenance, and your SAC membership. Discounted levels are available to encourage youth and families:
Adult is the most common membership level.
Spouse is available to spouses of existing adult members.
Junior is available to those under 21 or any full-time students under 25.
Youth is available to those under 19, and scholarships may be available. It does not include voting rights.
Social is available to anyone. It does not allow flying as a pilot, and does not include SAC membership or voting rights.
A flying season typically starts early April and ends late October. Whole-season or half-season memberships are available:
Start - End: $750 for Adult, $530 for Spouse, $480 for Junior, $335 for Youth, or $60 for Social
Aug 1 - End: $425 for Adult, $300 for Spouse, $270 for Junior, or $200 for Youth
Start - Jul 31: $425 for Adult or $300 for Spouse (only as a one-time trial for new members)
In addition to membership costs, you can expect to pay for the following per flight:
Towing Fees: $20 per 1000 feet of tow height (between 1000' and 5000')
Rental Fees: $1.58 per minute of club glider rental or $735 per season for unlimited club glider rental
For the 2025 season, the club L-33 (C-GGHC) has a trial rental rate of $0.79 per minute.
Landing a glider anywhere away from the Chipman airfield will require a retrieval:
By Plane: $20, plus $1.58 per minute for retrieval from an airfield by tow plane
By Ground: Your retrieval team will bring the glider trailer to you and help de-rig
As a student it is unlikely you will land away from the airfield.
Fully licensed members of other Canadian soaring clubs can pay $100 for a 10-day visitors membership. This does not cover SAC membership, and you cannot take advantage of the unlimited glider rental option. Other requirements and CFI approval will apply.
Members can stay overnight at the airfield in the bunkhouse, or camp on-site for free. Members can also purchase single "intro flights" for a discounted rate of $100, or a three-pack for $250. Intro flights make excellent gifts for friends or family members!
We are a non-profit club, and we are grateful for the volunteer hours put in by instructors, tow pilots, grounds keepers, and aircraft maintainers. When we're not flying there is ample opportunity to help with aircraft, hangar, runway, technology, or clubhouse maintenance.
Soaring is a team sport, and everyone is expected to assist with launching and ground operations.
